classical style penthouse with contemporary accents

This penthouse represents a significant change of lifestyle for our client. Moving from a storied Georgian estate, our direction was to create a home that was both elegant and comfortable, yet also to give hints of our client’s newfound love for contemporary art. Although decidedly classical in nature, there is the surprising juxtaposition of two Hans Hoffman abstracts directly facing a storied portrait by Paul Rubens in the living room. The occasional inclusion of contemporary sculpture and various modern artworks is equally balanced by numerous museum quality antiques and family heirlooms. Even our client’s love of coral hues is further richly balanced by our inclusion celadons, yellows and rusts. (Published KC Design magazine)
